Vane type rotary air compressor:
It consists of rotor located essentially in a cylindrical outer casing.
The rotor carries a set of spring loaded vanes in the slots of the rotors
The volume of air V at atmospheric pressure P1, is entrapped between two vanes as it is in root blower.
As rotation proceeds, the entrapped air is first compressed reversibly from condition 1-2.
As the compression takes place due to decrease in volume provided for the entrapped air, then the air is compressed from the pressure P to P2 irreversibly.
This irreversible compression is just similar to the compression expanded in the root.
