Necessity of using series reactor in power system :
The reactance of a series reactor should not decrease under short circuit condition when a large current flows through its winding’s if short circuit current has to be limited to a current predetermined value. Therefore reactors are used with non-magnetic cores to limit this current. Also the 12R and eddy current cones are reduce by using series reactor.
